I found a snake in my back yard and would like to find out what kind it is. It had black triangular shapes on its back with the same markings on its belly.

To find out what kind of snake it was, i would determine the shapes, just like you did. if it has triangular markings, then it is probably poisonous. it is definitely poisonous if it is yellow and black striped. Determine this by the size, width, colour, and length of the snake. patterns also help. if you STILL have trouble, go to a website about snakes and look it up for goodness sake!
