The origins of birds are beginning to emerge through discoveries made in the rich fossil deposits of southern Africa. Over the last few years, archeologists have been comparing the remains of several specimens of Archaeopteryx that have been found and looking at how they are different and similar to fossil reptiles.
Scientists realise that birds are descended from a group of dinosaurs called coelurosaurs, which were early reptiles. Most scientists who work on this agree but some do not and there is still some debate about the origin of birds.
One of the most important changes that occurred in the development of reptile ancestors into birds was the development feathers. Some have suggested that just as fur was first of used by the ancestors of the mammals as a form of insulation, feathers may have involved as a means protection against the cold. They may have been used to keep warm long before they were used in flight.

Actually yes it is, because if you were to take a look at a birds feet, you will notice that it has scales on it.
I have heard that as far fetched as it may seem, the chicken is related to the t-Rex.
