Did Jimmy Carter See A UFO?

Jimmy Carter, who later became President of the United States, claimed to have seen a UFO in 1969 while he was the Governor of Georgia. Some years later, after Carter mentioned his UFO sighting casually while on the campaign trail, the International UFO bureau sent him a standard UFO sighting report and Carter filled it in. Carter described the object as being at around 300-1000 yards distance, changing size, colour and brightness, and moving away then coming closer again.

Many who have studied Carter's report conclude that what he actually witnessed was nothing more remarkable than the planet Jupiter. Carter does not describe the object as moving around the sky except appearing to recede at times so the Venus interpretation is not implausible. Carter witnessed the phenomenon with a group of about a dozen other people and they watched the object in the sky for 10 minutes. At the end of this period Carter claimed the object moved away before disappearing altogether.
