Generally hamsters do like to be on their own rather than with other hamsters. This is because they are solitary animals and whilst you do see them in cages with other hamsters in pet stores, it is always kinder to keep them on their own. The only reason they are with other hamsters in the pet store is because they are with their siblings until they reach a certain age. It is not possible to introduce one hamster from a different litter to another one as they will fight often until the death.
Some people do keep hamsters such as Russian hamsters together, but they are usually from the same litter and they have grown up together. Siberian hamsters are the main ones which prefer to live by themselves. So, when choosing your new hamster be sure to choose only one and if you do choose two, be prepared to maybe have to move them into separate cages later on in life.
If you have two hamsters, try putting them in separate cages(aquariums are safer and best).put the hamster in the other hamsters cage everyday for several minutes.they will get used to each other if you repeat what i said to do to the hamsters.thats how my hamsters got used 2 each other...good luck^^...
