I'm not sure the exact question, but a flat white paint works best. Most big stores such as home Depot or Lowe's will sell paint labeled for ceilings.

Most ceiling are painted with a standard flat ceiling paint unless it is in the kitchen where grease from cooking can be absorbed into the flat paint. Would recommend a semi-gloss in that situation but it is really your preference.
If you are painting popcorn ceilings, it is a good idea to use a thick nap roller, keep plenty of paint on the roller at all times and lightly roll it on, so as not to pull the popcorn off the ceiling.
