You can use the recovery console command prompt in Windows XP or Windows 2000 to recover kernell32.exe. This is because when you use the recovery console, you are using a special command prompt and not the ordinary Windows command prompt. The recovery console has a built-in mechanism to interpret commands. In order to obtain access to the command interpreter, you need to type the local password of the administrator.
When the recovery console starts, the user must press F6 to install a third-party SCSI or RAID driver, in case he or she needs such a driver to access the hard disk. The prompt works in the same manner as it does during the process of installation of the operating system.
The recovery console takes a long time to start. When the recovery console menu appears, a numbered list of Windows installations appears on the computer. Generally only the c:\Windows prompt exists.
