Who Can Have A Flu Jab?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Anybody aged 65 or over, or a resident of a home for the aged, or a person suffering from a chronic heart or chest complaint (including asthma), chronic kidney disease, diabetes or lowered immunity due to disease or treatment such as steroid medication or cancer treatment can go to a doctor and take an injection (known as the flu jab) to cure influenza (or the flu, as it is commonly known.) However, the flu jab will protect the patient for only about a year. The viruses causing influenza change every year, so it is advisable for a person to have his vaccinations done every year.

Though the flu jab might cause a slight rise in the body temperature and some muscle aches might occur, it is absolutely safe to get a flu jab done, as it does not contain any live viruses, so it will not cause the person to catch the flu. It is safe and makes sense to have a flu jab, but it does not automatically immunise the person against any other viruses. The best time to get a flu jab done is between September and November, so that the onset of winter-related viruses can be prevented.
