The best thing is to type your great grandmother's family name into a search engine and see if anything comes up. Then, if you know what area, state, town etc she and her family first arrived in, you can try to access the immigration or other records for that area and see if "town of origin" or a port in France is mentioned. You can then try records for any town or region if France which as far as you know is connected with your grandmother.
There are various sites of course, such as ancestry.com, which help you to access this kind of information, but you usually have to pay for these.
