What Is The Difference Of Cancer Risk Between Dark-skinned People And Light-skinned People?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Although the discovery is well-known that dark-skinned people have a lower risk of skin cancer than light-skinned people, nevertheless nothing is clear as of at the moment.  As dark-skinned people, in case if they develop cancerous signs, have a higher probability of developing a more intense and more aggressive form of the disease and even face a greater possibility of death.

The attribution of this problem could be easily given to a spurious sense of security to a large extent.  Although dark skin has a higher degree of melanin content that has the ability to filter about twice the amount of ultraviolet radiation as compared to lighter or paler skin.  Nevertheless the use of sunscreen enables a protective enamel (which is usually recommended by doctors) that works much more effectively than the melanin content contained in dark skin.  Moreover this concept of dark-skinned people of having a lower risk towards cancer perils often leads them to ignore and overlook some early warning signs.
