Does Reflexology Really Have An Effect On A Serious Health Problem?

Answer Question

It is unlikely that reflexology can help with serious illness such as heart disease and cancer. This is why it is recommended that reflexology only be used as a supplement to scientific medicine. People with serious illness should be treated by GPs and hospital doctors to try to treat the main problem but most doctors encourage the use of complementary therapies as this aids relaxation and helps patients cope with their illness and their conventional treatment better.

A reflexologist has a reference foot reflexology chart on which areas of the feet are marked out in different colours with a key explaining which part of the body is associated with which particular patch of the sole of the foot. In a serious illness, they will gently massage the part of the foot that corresponds with the affected body part to try to alleviate symptoms, but whether this has any positive effect is far from being proven. There have been clinical trials to assess the effectiveness of reflexology, but these have been inconclusive, or have shown no positive effect.

I am a Massage Therapist  so it is my belief that Reflexology is useful to help the systems of your body so that they work properly , thus affecting the overall health of a person.  For example.... if your intake of toxins becomes too much for your lymph system or liver to filter as quickly as needed, it could effect the systems and/or organs because they are overloaded.

Massage,Reflexology, deep breathing and pressure point therapy can do a world of good by moving those toxins and then with plenty of water after, they most likely should filter/flush out better. I knew this before I became a massage therapist. I used to get massages every Monday and now I don't, I'll tell you there is a real difference in my whole body wellness. I do Reflexology on myself whenever possible. Sometimes just to see which systems or organs are suffering. Then I make some changes in my lifestyle,diet,etc... until I've come back to a more level place.

I do believe that a serious illness that has taken hold of our bodies before we can prevent it from happening, should be treated by a Doctor. At those points in time , more could be needed. Also, if there were heart problems like blockage a massage or Reflexology could really be a problem  because the blockage could suddenly move and go to the heart, lungs or brain. I personally see a Doctor of Osteopathic medicine(more herbal) and I wouldn't turn away from scientific medicine for more serious problems.

There are very serious scientific testing being done on reflexology from brain imaging to ekg's and eeg's. It is a myth that there is little or no scientific testing on reflexology. Try [[EXT LINK: www.reflexology-research.com

I don't advise flying solo with reflexology. But I would also consider adding with a serious health problem it as long as I am under a doctor's care.

Never heard of a blockage moving with reflexology. Any research or is this speculation?

I would say reflexology definitely does have a positive effect on health problems. That is why we are seeing the incredible growth that we have seeing. And we are also seeing very intense research efforts.
