Stags are alternatively referred to as the red deer of Europe. As amusing as it sounds, stags fight in winter and autumn for possession of female stags for breeding. Most stags are found to be polygamous, even to such an extent that they collect harems. Interestingly enough, a stag who wishes to add to its harem a female stag that belongs to a harem of another stag, will challenge its rival to a feud that will eventually decide as to who gets the female stag.
At times other than winter and autumn, stags are solitary wanderers through the forests of Europe. However when the breeding season arrives, the fighting impulses of the stags start gaining momentum. Sometimes during the carriage of the fight, the antlers of both the fighting antlers become so terribly interlocked that they are unable to free themselves. In that case, the fight ends with the death of both the contestants
