"Birds of Prey" was published in the year 1997. It was the first book in the Third Sequence of books in a series related to the Courtney family written by Wilbur Smith. The Third Sequence even though released after the earlier two was written for the time person preceding the other two. The novels in this sequence were written or set in the years between the late 1600s to the middle of the 1700s.
The book has as its protagonist Henry or Hal Courtney. His father is a Naval Commander and belongs to the order of St. George who in the Anglo Dutch naval war is fighting against the Dutch. The plot is set around the coast of South Africa. The story is one of revenge and betrayal. Where a son sees his father murdered and sets off to avenge the same when he is made captain by the remainder of the crew who has escaped.
