    Betty Driver is a British actress, performer and writer who has been in the entertainment business for more than 60 years. Driver, born in 1920, began her performing career as a singer in the early 1940s. During the Second World War, Driver also performed for British troops. Driver was also a guest on a number of radio talk shows and she even had her own program, entitled "A Date with Betty" air during the first half of her career.

    Betty Driver began her acting career in the 1960s and had a role in the 1964 sitcom "Pardon the Expression!" Since 1969 she also plays the fictional character Betty Turpin in Coronation Street and is now one of the longest standing characters in the show.

    Driver published her autobiography, entitled "Betty," in 2000 under the aegis of Hushion House. At age 86, Betty Driver is still seen serving pints and preparing hot-pots in Coronation Street's local pub, Rover's Return.
