What Shakespeare Plays Did William Shakespeare Perform In?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It was only towards the end of his theatrical life, that Shakespeare turned fully to the writing of his plays. Before that, he had acted in most of them.  It is accepted, that the ghost of Hamlet's father, was a part Shakespeare wrote for himself, which was written in 1599, when he was 35. A little earlier, such roles as Leonato, governor of Messina, in Much Ado About Nothing, gave him the opportunity to "direct" and stage manage the play, as Leonato opens the play, adds the odd one liner here and there, and finally ends the play. Perfect for a director. He was a consummate actor! And wrote for the Queen's men many plays including himself in the cast. He had to, the financial rewards of a GOOD play, could be very dramatic indeed, as can be found in the meticulous records of Philip Henslowe, owner of the Rose, a theatre Shakespeare's company sometimes used.
