Who Was William B. Bate?

    William Brimage Bate born on October 7th, 1826 was the governor of Tennessee from the year 1883 to 1887 and consequently the United States Senator from Tennessee from the year 1887.

    Bate had famously served as a volunteer in the Mexican-American War. He worked in the Tennessee House of the Representatives from the year 1849 to 1851. He completed his graduation from a law school based in Lebanon, Tennessee in the year 1852. Later on he went on to become the district attorney general for the Nashville region in the year 1854.

    Bate also served in the Confederate forces during the Civil War, and went on to achieve the rank of major general, commanding a unit. He first time he ever came across combat action was in the year 1861 as the colonel of the second Tennessee Infantry.
