Which Authors Have Self-published Their Books?

Authors who have self-published their books include GP Taylor, Christopher Paolini, and Virginia Woolf.

GP Taylor's first novel, Shadowmancer was self-published and was a bestseller, leading to it being published by Faber and Faber. The book received mainly positive reviews.

Christopher Paolini's first novel in his Inheritance Trilogy, Eragon, was published privately by his own family, who ran their own publishing business. However, the book ended up being republished by Knopf after the publisher was informed of how good the book was. The book was a success, though it did receive some criticism due to the plot being far too similar to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Despite this though, the book has been made into a film, which was released in December 2006 and is now available on DVD.

Virginia Woolf had the majority of her work self-published through the Hogarth Press.
