The only thing that comes to mind is the Rodney King beating. There were riots after the hearings when the officers were acquitted. Major discrimination there. On a personal level, my husband and I took our kids to W. Va. In 93, to visit their grandmother. While there, we were in the store, and one of the kids in there said, "Eew, a darkie". I stopped in my tracks and gave him a stare that made him want to run home to his mother. I'm an Alaskan Aleut, not an Eskimo, and I am 1/2 white as well, with dark hair, and freckles. I hated that feeling, but I stood my ground, and made my point to that kid. Hope this helps.
