The General Assembly of the United Nations established the International Day of Peace. It declared, through resolution 36/67 that on the third Tuesday in September each year, a global ceasefire should be observed.
Since 2002, the day has been set as 21 September each year, which has formerly established the day on the world calendar as an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence.
The ceasfire has yet to become completely global, but the Peace One Day organisation continues to spread the message and the invitation is ongoing – to government organisations and individuals to mark the day in an appropriate manner, through education and public awareness.
