A calorie is a unit that is used to measure energy in the human body.

The actual word Calorie has a French base. It is derived from the French word Calor which means hot or heat.

When many people think of calories, they think of obesity or fat people. Many doctors recommend that by losing calories each day, that one will lose weight. Losing or burning calories is the same thing as burning or using the bodies stored energy. So, losing calories may or may not cause one to lose weight. It depends on how the body burns or uses the calories. Each individual person has a different metabolism.

So, in a short definition, a calorie is a unit of measure that is use to determine how much energy is being used in the human body.

All food contains calories. The more food one eats, the more calories they take in.
