Beside of the latest advancement in pain killer segment, the pain is still not being treated successfully. You can block the spinal nerves supplying to the pain area by surgery but this is itself a problem and creates many more symptoms.  It all depends on where is the pain and how long you have had this pain.  Like all treatments there are risks involved.  You can probably try homeopath type of relief where you can have reiki done, meditations are really good but you would have to be in less pain in order to do this.  Certain exercising can be helpful if you know the right trainer to help you.  But if you are like me I have been dealing with pain since 1997 and have had a s1,L5 spinal fusion in which is now called a failed back surgery.  But I have recently have done a trail version of what is called a Radio Frequency Liesoning done.  What it is before the insurance companies approves is that the dr will numb the nerves that are causing the pain.  It only last for about 4 to 6 hrs only tempary.  If in that time your pain has decreased enough that you can go about your normal day doing things that would normally causes you pain and you have no pain or minimal pain without to much pain meds, then you would be a cadidate for the RFL's  Radio Frequency Lesioning.  Which they neurosurgen will go take copper wires to your nerves in the area of the pain and burn those nerve roots.  It takes approx. 8 months to a year for your nerves to grow back.  I am on my second RFL I had my first done in 3 years ago.  It does not take away all of my pain but I can live comfortably without taking too many pain meds and ruining my body with them.  I hope that this works out for you, just talk with your dr.  If you want more information you can look it up on the web www.paincenter.com  I hope that this answer your questions.

 My dr said to go through pain management program but from what I heard if you need any meds. Then you have to go through them.And that you family dr. Can't prescribe any thing too you.Which I think is bull!!!!!!!!!
