There are many schools of thought when it comes to aspiring actors. Some people believe that acting is a skill born with and no amount of training will help a non-actor become an actor. There are others, notably students of method acting such as Marlon Brando and Al Pacino who believe that acting can be formally taught.

The Lee Strasberg institute in New York is the most famous method acting school. Some of Hollywood's finest talent has graduated from this institute. There are others who became actors purely as a continuation of the family dynasty. Notable examples include Michael Douglas and Ben Stiller. An individual's networking skills are very important to land him/her good projects. He will need to find him an efficient agent who has the ability to get access to reputed producers and directors. Sylvester Stallone wrote a script for himself when he was constantly being rejected by the bigger studios. The script became a movie ~ Rocky and Stallone became a star.
