Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hasting Pier is a gratification pier in Hastings. Located in East Sussex UK. The pier was founded by then Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Earl of Granville. It was inaugurated on August 5th, 1872. It was designed by Eugenius Birch who was also the designer of West Pier, Brighton.

Around 1996 the pier was up for sale, but the there was a huge doubt over its future as there wasn't even a single potential buyer due to the huge amount of money required to improve and support the pier.

In 2002 the pier was sold and reopened again under new ownership. In spite of the huge amount of funds put into safety features and measures it was lately discovered that the supports had failed, it is now highly doubtful that the pier will be re-opened this summer.
