There are a number of records and documents that can be termed census substitutes.

For the period around 1612 English and Scottish 'undertakers' (settlers) in Ireland are listed in the Historical Manuscripts Commision Report No.4. This covers the landlords who were granted land in the counties of Cavan, Fermanagh and Donegal.

Muster Rolls 1630 are lists of larger landowners in Ireland who could call on able bodied men to fight if necessary. The records and lists are recorded by county.

The Books of Survey and distribution were produced after the wars of mid C17 in order to carry out land distribution.
Land ownership prior to the Cromwellian and Williamite period around 1641 and after 1666-1668 are recorded. The Irish Manuscript Commission ha published the information for Clare, Galway and county Roscommon.
