Am I Making The Right Decision For My 13 Year Old Lab Mix Who Has Been Diagnosed With Kidney Failure?

I just brought my 13 year old lab-mix Shadow home from 3 days of IV and medication to flush out her kidneys. She was diagnosed with large amounts of protein in her urine and the vet said her kidneys were not working. Her second test showed no improvement. I felt that we should take her home and spend time with her and put her to sleep on Monday. The Vet had said that they could get more aggressive with the treatment but there was no guarantee. My Husband is not ready to let her go. Any advice.

I think you should put her to rest and end her suffering! I don't want to sound mean, but I think it's a bit selfish of your spouse to keep her hanging on with all that pain. Yes, it will hurt, but I think it would just be best for the dog. Hope this helps, sorry you have to lose her, good luck.

You should put her to sleep, because she is 13 and that is an old age, so if she has had a good life than i think that it is time to let her go up into doggie heaven
