This surname is of English  origin. Bartley can be relocated in Hampshire or from Bartley Green in Worcestershire, both so called from the Old English pre 7th Century meaning "birch"wood''

      There are two origins:
German (Swabian) Americanized spelling of Bartle and the Swiss cognate, Bartli.
The second is English, in Hamshire. Or Bartley Green in the West Midlands. Meaning birch + leah or woodland clearing.
