When Was The Trojan War?

The Trojan War is believed to have taken place in the Bronze Age, around 1300 BC and 1200 BC. Eratosthenes (276 BC-194 BC), a very famous Greek mathematician and astronomer, places it between 1194 BC and 1184 BC. The Trojan War took place between the army of Troy (near today's north-western Turkey) and the Achaeans (a Roman province in southern Greece).

The Trojan War is most vastly described in Homer's epic works the Illiad and the Odyssey. As time passed, the war came to be regarded as fiction. However there are over 350 scholars and scientists working in what is considered to be the general location of Troy and it is evident that there was a great city and a great battle that was fought here.

Though Achilles is considered to be the hero of the Trojan War, the war had truly started before he was even born. The Greek goddess (of discord) Eris was furious at not being invited to the wedding of Thetis and Pelus. True to her nature, she proceeded to wreak havoc at the wedding that resulted in Hera, Athena and Aphrodite all vying for the judge's (Paris) favour. Aphrodite offered him Helen if he chose her, and Paris accepted…the rest, as they say is history!!
