    Mainframe computers are also known as big iron and they are usually used in large organizations. Mainframe computers are responsible for carrying out critical transactions. When bulk data processing is used, organizations prefer to use mainframe computers. These computers are also used for large industries where consumers statistics are required, financial transactions are processed and in ERP. Mainframe computers are also capable of handling a number of operating systems at a time and they are able to control a large number of servers at a time. In addition, mainframe computers can also process high speed memory functions. Therefore, in most of the large organizations like airline industry mainframe computers are used because of their fast speed and ability to process complex data.
