I aquired a '78 RCA color trak tv that evidently can only be operated with a remote, which I didn't get with the tv. Will any universal remote cure my problem?

You need to check the remote's manual. They have product codes for different types of TV (ex: Sanyo, Toshiba, Sony, etc.) You would need to check that to see if it includes your type of TV.

Yes. I will stand by that answer to the end if you buy the remote at Radio Shack and pay more than $10 US for it before taxes.
