The Temple of Kom Ombo overlooks the River Nile at Aswan in Egypt. Kom Ombo is an agricultural town in which many of the Nubian people from southern Egypt live. They used to live in villages in the area now covered by Lake Nassar. This area was flooded to form a huge artificial lake when the Aswan Dam was completed at the end of the 1960s.

The temple is right in the middle of the town and is Graeco-Roman in style. It is symmetrical with two entrances, two halls and two sanctuaries. This unusual structure reflects the fact that it was built for the worship of two gods, Horus and elder, the falcon god and Sobek, the local crocodile god.

The temple was built between the 2nd century BC and the 1st century BC. It was begun by Ptolemy VI Philometer and finished by Ptolemy XII Neos Dionysus, although the Roman emperor Augustus added an entrance pylon to the temple in 30 BC.
