What Is Considered Beyond Normal Wear Or Tear? What Would A Hole From A Doorknob Be Considered?

Answer Question

A lot of times normal wear and tear is up to the landlord to determine. Unfortunately most landlords will call normal wear and tear as damage. When I moved out of the house I rented for 3 years, they said nothing about the hole my dog ate in the carpet, but charged me $30 a piece for 2 mini blinds that broke... I saw the blinds in the boxes when I moved in and they had price stickers of $7 each.... And I had to install most of them when I moved in. They also charged me for a cracked window... That was cracked when I moved in and was documented...lol... Anyway... Even If they knew the doorstop was missing they are wrong to charge you for the hole...its a simple repair. I think its just a way to keep security deposits.

That would normally be a minor repair, but there should have been a spring at the bottom of the inside of the door to make sure that there wasn't a hole being put in the door, for the repair, cut away the rough edges, use a mesh that you get from the hardware store, and the spackle from there too, and apply the mesh over it, then the spackle. Let that dry and apply more to even it out some, then after that dries, gently sand to make it flush with the wall and paint. That easy! Hope this helps, good luck to you.

If you live in a rental property and you did not report the missing door stop that allowed the knob to pop the hole in the wall it would be beyond normal wear and tear, but if you did report the door stop missing, it is owner neglect.

If your talking about renting and having a evaluation before moving  and not getting your payment(security deposit) back it is probably considered beyond normal wear and tear..most doors have a stop either in the baseboard or wall..to prevent this type of damage...or you should have either requested them or bought them yourself .sorry about your luck ...

Probably not considered normal wear and tear if it left a hole in the wall, maybe you should repair it then get a guard to put on the wall to protect it
