I've known some children not to speak until 3 years of age. Nothing wrong, they just aren't ready to speak. Once they do, there's no stopping them. :-) I would talk to your pediatrician and if they say nothing is wrong, then no worries. The child just isn't ready to speak and will when they are.

I have a niece who has a son that did the same thing. yes, some wait for awhile to speak, but he uttered sounds when he should have been saying words like ''mommy & daddy" at age two. later, she had him tested & was diagnosed with 'mild' autism. not to say he isn't a bright child. of course mom is in denial. thinks he's just all boy. but, i have observed him & think he needs more one on one. if he got that, i think he would be much further ahead than he is. my heart breaks for this little guy because mom doesn't understand some kids need a little more attention & nurturing than others. sit with him 1 on 1 and observe how he reacts to different conversations, etc. my little nephew would never look me in the eyes which gave me my first clue that he needed extra stimulation. i pray for yours and also mine. good luck. please have him tested.
