When Were The First Volvos Built?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The first Volvos appeared in 1926 with the production of 10 prototypes, which cost the handsome sum of £1500. The first production model, the Volvo OV4, rolled off the assembly line in Sweden at around 10 am on April 14, 1927.

A workforce of 60 was employed to produce these first Volvos at the rate of five cars per week. The touring version of the first Volvo model sold for £480 and the saloon version for £580.

From this early success, Volvo then set their future course by developing from the ground up a completely new vehicle. In 1929 they launched the PV651, a five-seater, and the first of a series of vehicles built around their newly developed chassis. The inherent reliability of the PV651 which far outstripped what was then the norm, soon led to a stretched seven-seater model, the TR671, which was firmly aimed at the taxi cab market.
