Which Fable Names The Lion As The King Of The Beasts?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

All the animals began to argue about who had the finest and most numerous family. From frogs to hedgehogs, each animal was sure that he or she had the most splendid children. Finally they agreed that at the end of a year they would all go to the god Jupiter and ask him to decide which beast had the finest children.

For a year, each animal worked hard to bring up their children in health and beauty. Then they all went up to Jupiter's mountain in a long procession. One after another hedgehogs, frogs, lizards, caterpillars, rabbits and many more. All this time Jupiter said nothing. Finally, after all the other animals came a lioness with a single beautiful, golden cub. Jupiter told them all that, although the lioness had only one child, that child was the strongest and most beautiful of all animals; and therefore, from now on the lion should be known as the King of Beasts. He has had this title ever since.
