How Does The Software Help The Book-keeper To Avoid Making Data Entry Errors?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

By performing a reasonability test on data entered. If the entries have averaged $10.00 over some period and the accountant were to forget to enter the decimal $1000 the software could warn that the entry is not in keeping with the history of this account and ask "Are you sure you want to enter $1000?".

When entering address data software could standardize the input so that the same address later entered differently would end up the same. For instance you could enter avenue or Avenue or Av, or AVE etc. And the software could always give you Ave.

You could enter zip code and with zip lookup the city and state could be automatically filled in.

Software can perform a reasonability check on credit numbers to verify that the number entered follows the rules for the particular type of card.

Lots of other checks can be performed.
