Can You Tell Me About Bing Crosby's Childhood?

Bing Crosby was born on the 3rd of May in the year 1903 in Washington. His parents were Harry Lowe Crosby; a bookkeeper of English American descent and Irish-American Catherine Harrigan. Bing had 6 siblings; Larry, Everett, Ted, Bob, Catherine and Mary Rose of which he was the fourth. In a very bizarre incident surrounding Crosby's childhood, it is believed that he had no legal birth certificate due to which his date of birth remained a constant source of discussion. The matter was finally put to rest when the church that he had been baptized in found some of their old records.

Crosby got his nickname 'Bing' from a childhood neighbor and friend with whom he shared a common liking for a newspaper called 'The Bingville Bugle'. At the age of 15 he took a job in an auditorium which exposed him to some of the finest comedy acts. After this he went on to study to become a lawyer and also learn the drums while in Law College. He started playing with a band that became rather successful. He made so much money playing with his college band mates and that he finally decided to quit studying and join the entertainment business.
