It is true that many hairdressers warn against using Pantene Pro V, claiming that the product is like wax and it builds up over time, eventually breaking off the hair. Many people have backed up this theory whilst others have no problems whatsoever. It all depends upon whether it is working for you.

If you have been using Pantene for a long time and you are not noticing much excess hair coming off, or any breakage, then there is absolutely no reason why you should stop using it. However, if you are noticing that your hair is getting damaged then it is better to switch.

Overall if your hair is healthy and you are happy there is no need to change. Some people like to change their shampoo and conditioner every so often anyway as their hair gets used to one brand and it stops working for them after a while. Just do what it right for you and if you are worried try and find another product which you feel more comfortable with.

i'm a hairdresser and have been for 20 years. pantene is great if you want to have zero moisture and ruin your hair. cheaper hair products (like pantene) cover your hair shaft in silicone, by doing this your locks may seem healthy and shiny but in all actuality your hair is dry and brittle. since your hair is covered in silicone, this prevents a barrier that doesn't let moisture penetrate your hair, much like a water-proof jcaket. i would suggest using AVEDA hair detoxifier to strip your hair of silicone and build up, then follow through with an aveda shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair healthy. this isn't an advertisement, but through all my years aveda is the best. good luck! and stop using shitty hair products!

Sometimes it is wise to change shampoo and other products for a while so that your body gets a bit of a rest. If there is an allergy problem or your hair is obviously being damaged you can get it tested by a specialist - other than a hairdresser, that is.
