What Is The Functionality Of A Helicopter?

Answer Question

A helicopter is type of aircraft that is able to travel in both the horizontal as well as vertical direction. This happens by using the elaborated propeller-like device situated at the top of its structure. This is true that the propeller looks very simple to work, but actually it is little more complicated than it seems. The propeller consists of two blades spinning in the same direction around the common central point.

The mechanism of helicopter manoeuvre depends on the pitch, position and angle of attack of those two blades that can cause the copter to employ upward, downward, forward and backward thrust and to move at any given angle to any direction. The mechanism of helicopter is somehow problematic and throws a challenge to modern aeronautical science. Following the principle illustrated in Newton's second law, as the two blades moving along the same direction, so it will cause an equal amount of force on the body of the copter in the opposite direction – hence the copter has a tendency to spin at the opposite direction at an equal force. To rectify the problem new technologies have been advanced. One of them is to add secondary propeller moving in the other direction which is able to prevent it from spinning out of control.
