I need a formal definition for the term "loop" as it relates to the repitition of tonal and/or chord sequences in jazz music .

Loop refers to a piece of music that plays over and over again. In jazz music composition, a loop repeats a musical phrase, which is called a sequencer. Whereas, a sampler is also a kind of loop which is used to allow samples of finite length to be indefinitely sustained.
