Does Elemental Sulfur Form Sulfur Dioxide Slowly At Room Temperature?

What happens to sulfur when it is contact with the air; for example, as a powder or crystals on top of soil? It has been touted as a means of increasing soil acidity. Sulfur dioxide forms sulfurous acid with water.

    SO2 almost killed me in 92! It was formed when water was being added to Sulfuric Acid to dilute it.

    At 80% it looks blue gray! When sulfur is melted it's formed! It tore up my lungs.

    Form at room temperature I doubt it! SO2 and SO3 go hand an hand, and are BAD news!
