Gentle leader is the best leash to use. It's a special collar that professional trainers use and it really works. It helps you to keep them from pulling by not choking the dog.A dog will keep letting them pull rather they are choking or not. With this collar it doesn't choke them but has a way of pulling them back in a gentle way. It doesn't take long and the dog will walk right beside you. I like the harness better.

The secret lies less in the leash, and more on how you teach him to behave with you when you walk. You should have a good strong one, leather or webbing. Let him wear a harness if you do not want to hear the choking sounds as he tries to run ahead.
Although dog trainers would tell you that you should keep him on a short lead with the rest wrapped around your hand and bring him up quite firmly when he does not stay at heel or maintain the correct pace with you.
If you want your dog to be a pleasure when you are out in public with him then, this lesson must be taught, not without patience and lots of energy on your part.
It may feel like a battle of the wills but, if you persist, you will find that it will build a strong bond between you and your dog, and make him or her feel more secure, and save your shoulders and neck. Good luck!
