Is he is not overweight, have you identified if he is not prone to genetic related joint conditions? Nevertheless, there are a few other things that will cause goopy eyes in your dog and if this condition persists more than a day, it is good practice to check with a vet doctor. Some of the symptoms including goopy eyes are indicators of inverted eyelids but all this may need the vet to examine. Good luck.
