Geographically, Greater Miami lies on the southern-most coast of Florida and consists of the sister cities of Miami and Miami Beach and a number of islands and nearby satellite communities.

The economy centres on international trade and shipping, with around 40 per cent of America's export to South and Central America and the Caribbean transiting through Miami. Tourism is another major plank of the local economy and is worth in excess of $14 billion per annum.

To get an authentic taste of Miami, most visitors will take in the following sights.

Downtown is the vibrant heart of Miami and offers excellent cuisine, shopping and entertainment. The waterfront Bayside marketplace is a popular starting point.

Little Havana lies to the west of downtown Miami and is home to 800,000 of the city's Cuban community. A lively and colourful district with lots to see and do.

Key Biscayne contains some of Florida's best beaches. A causeway links the Key to the mainland. See traditional Florida houses rub shoulders with celebrity mansions.
