What Are The Seven Hills Of Rome?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In the days of early Rome, the seven hills, situated to the east of the Tiber, were the Cermalus, Cispius, Fagutal, Oppius, Palatium, Sucusa, and Velia and these featured prominently in Roman mythology, religion and politics.

The hills were inhabited originally by small settlements and not recognised as a single city.  Those living in the hills began participating in religious games and over time this competition started to bond the groups, slowly bringing the City of Rome into being as the separate settlements acted as a group with the marshy valleys between them being drained.

In modern day Rome, current Rome, five of the hills (Aventine, Caelian, Esquiline, Quirinal, and Viminal hills) are populated with monuments, buildings and parks; the Capitoline now hosts the Municipality of Rome; and the Palatine is an archaeological area.
