There were more than 45,000 students in some of England's deprived schools that were given pedometers in hopes of increasing their physical activity. A pedometer is a little device that is used to count the user's steps. Since the small devices were given out, the number of students walking has grown from 8,355 steps to 13,939 steps. It has encouraged a mass interest in walking and moving around for every student who received a pedometer.
Students use the pedometers as they walk around, then they log their results into a computer. So, not only are they being active, they are also learning to log ttheir progress on the computer. According to the School Minister, the pedometers have encouraged students to be more active inside and outside of school. The main hope is to get kids to be active and eliminate childhood obesity.
