Having a CCJ does not always stop you from getting a mortgage, but you will not have the same choice of lenders as someone with a clean financial record.

Most of the high street banks and building societies are unlikely to lend to someone with CCJ so you will be restricted to lenders who provide a telephone-based or internet-based service. You might also try a broker. Brokers will place you with mortgage lenders who are more likely to lend to someone in your position because they have a widespread knowledge of the market.

It is also worth investigating whether or not your CCJ can be lifted. If it can, wait for a while to make sure that this information has filtered through the financial and credit-referencing agencies, check your credit references to make sure that they are clean, then try applying for a mortgage.
