I had similar problems with my back and I can sympathise with the pain that you are in.
There are certain exercises that you can do to help alleviate the pain. However, you need to seek advice from a professional chiropractor before attempting any of these. You may make the situation worse.
Unfortunately, there is nothing that you can do regarding a degenerated disc. This has happened over time and is not reversible.
The bulging parts of discs, on the other hand, can be rectified but this is through surgery. A neurosurgeon will literally slice the offending part of the disc. If the amount is not too much the whole process can be done with microsurgery. This leaves only a small scar and you need not spend more than one night in hospital.
If you have a large amount of disc that is affected, it may have to be removed completely. This will then probably require that the vertebrae above, and below, the disc will need to be fused together to seal up the space left by the disc.
My advice is to take as much care as you can at present. Avoid lifting or ensure that you use the proper technique of bending at the knees.
I hope everything works out.
