A float plane is defined as a type of sea plane. A sea plane is a type of aircraft which has fixed wings. It designed to take off and land upon water. A float plane is a type of sea plane which has lean pontoons. The pontoons of a float plane are mounted under its fuselage.
There are basically two types of floatplanes which are common. However many float planes which were used during World War II, which lasted for a duration of six years (that is between the year 1939 and the year 1945), has a single float under its main fuselage and two minor floats on the wings.
Only the floats of a float plane normally come directly into contact with the water, and the fuselage of the float plane remains above the surface of the water. Several of the smaller ranges of land aircraft can be customized to become float planes.
