Harmondsworth is located in the Borough of Hillingdon near London and Heathrow Airport. If Heathrow is permitted to expand and build a third runway, much of Harmondsworth will disappear. It is also the name of a detention center and a refugee camp for people waiting to be deported from England.

Harmondsworth is mentioned in the Domesday book. In the year 1086, it was shown to have a value of twenty pounds. There were fish ponds, three water mills, grape vines and wild game was plentiful. There was also a Benedictine priory and the rent for the water mills went to the monks of the priory. The abbot Gouelin (Viscount of D'Arques and Dieppe) was given the Manor of Harmondsworth by William the Conqueror in 1030.
It is the base of British Airways at present.
