CBS is the acronym for the Columbian broadcasting system. It is also popularly known as the Tiffany Network because many think the CBS programming to be of a much classier taste than the rest of the networks. It is also sometimes called the 'Eye Network' owing to its black and white logo.
For a very long time it was America's top broadcasting giant and also used to be one of the largest radio broadcasting networks in the United States. Till date, it is best known for its quality broadcasting. Previously it used to be owned by Viacom, one of the biggest media conglomerates in the world. Once Viacom split in the year 2005, it became the CBS Corporation. Today it is owned by Sumner Redstone .

Actually it is the Columbia Broadcasting System, a CBS Corporation Company. CBS remains to this day, the most watched television network. ABC is next in line, followed by FOX, NBC, the CW (a merger between CBS's UPN networks and WB, meaning Columbia/Warner) and MyNetworkTV (a FOX company). Viacom still owns 46% of the shareholdings to this day.
