Sometimes it is hard to tell when you are no longer hungry as it does take up to twenty minutes sometimes for your body to take in the fact that you are full. This often means that people eat far too much than they need to and then they can feel overly full after that twenty minutes that it takes to acknowledge it.
Generally the feeling of hunger just goes away and you are not particularly bothered about finishing what is on the plate. In this instance you should generally stop eating as your body does not need the food and you are not hungry. However, so many people have been brought up to eat everything that was on their plate regardless of whether they were full or not. This has led to them eating everything and ignoring feelings of fullness, leaving them confused as to how much they should be eating.
